“My audience’s constant appreciation and support is what drives me as a performer,” says Gopi Desai, essaying Ammaji’s character in &TV’s Ghar Ek Mandir – Kripa Agrasen Maharaja Ki

With over four decades in the entertainment industry and working across various films and television shows, seasoned veteran actor Gopi Desai has carved a niche for herself by portraying several strong characters on screen. Now, seen as ‘Amma Ji’ in &TV’s Ghar Ek Mandir – Kripa Agrasen Maharaja Ki, the actor talks about her role and her journey in the entertainment industry and much more.

1. How will your role as Amma Ji add spice to the show? My character of Ammaji is a very calm and polite lady who holds an extremely important stature in the baniya community. Usually, Amma Ji does not attend social gatherings but only graces those with her presence who is very close to her, just like the Agarwal family. She is a tapasvi saadhvi who has dedicated herself to the almighty. My character will bring a lot of drama to the show. Amma Ji only consumes saatvik food, but Genda accidentally serves her food with onion and garlic. Considering this to be an outrage to her belief, Amma Ji creates a lot of havoc in the family. It will be an interesting watch for the viewers to see Genda trying to make amends with the help of her Agrasen Maharaja.

2. You have been a part of TV industry for more than four decades and have seen itgrow. Tell us a little about your journey. It has been an enriching journey working in the Hindi television industry. Right from the nature of shows, content to technology used – all of it has undergone evolved to satisfy audience’s growing demand for entertainment. I remember when I had started working as an actor, the programs were recorded on VTR and half inch tapes. It was not easy churning out content then as it is today. Today, we are in the digital age. The technology has seen a remarkable progression and it has reflected very well on the production time, cost and quality.

3. Have you considered being a part of the fraternity as more than an actor? Certainly, I have loved spending time behind the camera rather than in front of it. It is a rush to be the mastermind responsible for the act put together. I have participated in various projects as a producer and writer. I have a passion for writing, and I have always encouraged myself to take on such challenges.

4. Your message to the viewers. Audiences’ constant appreciation and support are the most important factors that drive me to consistently entertain everyone with my performances. I am here because of them and their affection. I will continue to do my best always. Acting is my passion, and I love what I do. And these are things that inspire and motivate me every day. So always pursue your passion is what I keep telling everyone.
