Billionaire Suleman's son is no more!

Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son Suleman Dawood were among the five people dead in the Titanic tourist submersible, likely in an incident in which their vessel suffered a “catastrophic implosion" in the ocean depths.

The Titanic submarine, which was owned by a company named OceanGate, had five passengers on board including the pilot and the owner of OceanGate, Stockton Rush.

As per media reports, OceanGate Expeditions charged $250,000 for a seat on the sub. In a 2018 lawsuit, its former director of marine operations raised concerns about the "experimental and untested design" of Titan.

Rescuers from US and Canada were diligently searching for the submarine containing five wealthy personalities who had gone to take a tour of the iconic ship Titanic, which had sunk in 1912.

The search party led by the rescuers ended their search operation on Thursday after they discovered a “debris field" in the search area. The family of British-Pakistani business tycoon Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood expressed their ‘profound grief’.

Who was Shahzada Dawood?

Dawood was one of the richest men in Pakistan. He served as the vice-chairman of the Engro Corporation and was a director of the Dawood Hercules Corporation. Besides that, Dawood had been a trustee of the family foundation The Dawood Foundation (TDF) from 1996 to 2023.

He had an LLB degree from Buckingham University and an MSc in global textile marketing from Philadelphia University.

After this incident, it has now come to the limelight that the Pakistani businessman had suffered a horrific airplane incident in 2019, in which he experienced an almost near-death experience.

Dawood, along with his wife Christine, in her blog post, recalled a life-changing flight journey in which the airplane plunged several times through the storm. This incident left her husband fearing for his life.

“I should have known when they canceled our flight and put us on the next one. We should have taken the sign, gone back home, and had a long and generous breakfast. But we didn’t, and this flight became one of the most memorable ones of my life,” Christine said in the blog post titled ‘Living With Anxiety’ shared on the website Next Step Now.

She further gave the details on how the plane plunged around three to five times, which is very unusual. “The start was uneventful and so was most of the cruising but just as the seatbelt signs came on to alert us to our imminent landing approach, the plane took a deep plunge. I later read that a plane doesn’t drop more than three to five meters during turbulence, but my stomach at that moment would beg to differ. The whole cabin let out one simultaneous cry, which turned to a whimper and then silence,” Christine further explained in her blog post.

Son didn’t want to go on Titanic Sub

According to media reports, Dawood’s son Suleman, who was 19 years old, didn’t want to go on the Titanic sub and was really ‘terrified’ before going. The 19-years old university student was just accompanying his father who was obsessed with Titanic.

Azmeh Dawood — the older sister of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, was quoted as saying by NBC, that he "wasn't very up for it" and felt "terrified" about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic.

Amzeh further said that Suleman ended up going with his father because the trip ended on the Father’s Day weekend and he wanted to please his father. "I am thinking of Suleman, who is 19, in there, just perhaps gasping for breath ... It's been crippling, to be honest,” Azmeh said.

"I feel like I've been caught in a really bad film, with a countdown, but you didn't know what you're counting down to. I personally have found it kind of difficult to breathe thinking of them,” she further added.
