Meet Babasaheb's family

Through its show, Ek Mahanayak Dr B.R. Ambedkar, launched in December 2019, &TV has presented a life story of Dr B.R. Ambedkar that have inspired and fervently connected with the audience. The show recently leapt into a new phase, with young Bhimrao moving to Mumbai to pursue further studies. In the ongoing track, Narottam Joshi (Vikram Dwivedi) is essaying the role of a prejudiced classmate. He makes persistent efforts to create new obstacles for young Bhimrao and his family. After creating challenging situations for him in college, he also manages to manipulate the owner of the chawl to evict Babasaheb and his family. Caught in this new challenge, how will young Bhimrao find a solution to this problem? 


In the new phase of the storyline, the show has introduced several new faces starting with Atharva as young Babasaheb, NarayaniMahesh Varne as Ramabai, Shagun Singh as Laxmibai, Kunwar Vikram Soni as Anand. And Jagannath Nivangune continues as Ramji MalojiSakpal, Sneha Mangal as Jijabai and Falguni Dave as Meerabai. Here’s an introduction to the family and the characters.

Atharva as young Babasaheb:  Also known as Babasaheb, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s life and legacy has inspired many. His list of talents and accomplishments is incomparable. Dr B.R. Ambedkar is one of the greatest leaders in Indian history, who rallied a revolution and became a voice to reckon with. He is the founding father of the Indian constitution and a leader par excellence whose legacy is unparalleled. No other personality of his stature could measure up to his contribution to society. From a young age, Babasaheb always believed in standing up for what is right and stood strong against injustice and inequality. He always believed that education is the only way to bring social reform. In the new phase, his fight for equality continues. 

Narayani Mahesh Varne asRamabai Ambedkar: Ramabai Bhimrao Ambedkar is Babasaheb’s wife. She is quite expressive and strong-headed, with a belief system of ‘Naya Savera, Naya Jeevan’. It is her unwavering faith that helped her overcome all challenging situations. She held her head high amidst the social injustices and atrocities. Although Ramabai did not receive any formal education, it did not hinder her from standing up for the injustice against the oppressed community. Ramabai Ambedkar is one of those women who silently stood resolute in rendering support to Dr Ambedkar, her biggest strength. She was a symbol of humility, resilience, and compassion.

Kunwar Vikram Soni as Anand Rao: Anand is Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s elder brother, watching over him. He is Bhimrao’s most dependable person as he would often look up to him for his guidance, support and encouragement. Anand always respects Bhimrao’s thoughts and ideas and shadows him in a way.

Shagun Singh as Laxmibai: Anand Rao’s wife, Laxmibai, is a jovial girl who treats Ramabai as her sister. But is easily influenced by others and often questions her husband’s ambition and priorities.

Jagannath Nivangune as Ramji MalojiSakpal: Ramji was an army officer who held the rank of Subedar. He was extremely strict in his principles and beliefs. He gave full freedom to all his children to aspire and chase their dreams. He had the biggest influence on Babasaheb’s life. His support and concern for him during all hardships was exceptional, and he was deeply committed to the betterment of his children. In his toughest times, Ramji stood like a pillar of strength beside his ambitious and visionary son. He always stood firm on his core values and teachings. Following his father’s guidance, Dr B. R Ambedkar began a historical journey of making a mark for himself in the world. Ramji was not just the support system of Babasaheb but also the backbone of the entire family and held everyone together.

Sneha Mangal as Jijabai: After the demise of Dr Bhimrao’s mother, Ramji got married to Jijabai for the sake of his children, and she stepped in as their mother. She had ideological differences with young Bhimrao.

Falguni Dave as Meerabai: DrBhimrao’s aunt is a loving and nurturing woman who, despite her physical disability, took care of her brother’s children.
