“Women do not want supremacy but equality,” say &TV’s leading ladies on International Women’s Day

It is rightly said that "A woman is a full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform.’ We are all aware of how women in every part of our society deal with inequality, leading to an unbalanced gender ecosystem. To celebrate womanhood and to spread awareness about gender equality, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th every year, and this year the theme is #BreakTheBias. &TV’s leading women protagonists, Vidisha Srivastava (Anita Bhabi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai), Mouli Ganguly (Mahasati Anusuya, Baal Shiv), Farhana Fatema (Shanti Mishra, Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai?), Himani Shivpuri (Katori Amma, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan) share their views on gender biases and the importance of celebrating womanhood.

Vidisha Srivastava, who will be entering as new Anita Bhabi in &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “Gender Inequality is a social issue. We cannot have a free and equal society until women enjoy equal rights as men. It is a basic human right, and we all are entitled to it. Over the years, there have been drastic changes with better representation of women in politics, more economic opportunities, and better healthcare across the world. But still, in many regions, women continue to face unfair treatment, which needs to be addressed. We women cannot succeed when half of us is held back, so it is important to progress together, which is possible only if we create a gender-equal environment. On this International Women’s Day, I would urge people to create a world where womanhood is celebrated. Cheers to all the women around the world! Happy Women’s Day.”

Mouli Ganguly, essaying Mahasati Anusuya’s role in &TV’s Baal Shiv, shares, "Women are synonymous with power, strength, and beauty but society treats us as inferior to men. Although my family has always treated me with equal love and respect, I am aware of how women are treated in other sections of our society. It breaks my heart to see the inequality that a woman faces right from childhood, which gradually spreads across her professional and personal spheres. I am glad that this issue is being internationally acknowledged and is now a part of global discourse under this year’s International Women’s Day theme. On International Women’s Day, I want to say that having a voice and speaking up for yourself is extremely important. It is not selfish but standing up for what you truly believe in and holding your ground to it. Be aware and express who you are and what you want out of life.”

Farhana Fatema, essaying Shanti Mishra’s role in &TV’s Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai, shares, "Break the Bias should not be a topic of discussion for just a day but should be an ongoing discussion at every platform to bring about a change. Gender inequality is a social issue that needs to be tackled. Despite advancements, women in all countries and across all socioeconomic levels face various forms of unfair treatment. Many women face inequality at home but tend to overlook it. They need to recognize and take a stand. For example, many women in their families are excluded from most decision-making, which not only points out their insignificance but is also a sign of disrespect. I feel furious when I hear about such incidents. A shift in mindset is what can bring about a change. Children should be taught about gender equality. They should be brought up in an environment where their mother is treated equally to their father, making a huge difference. Let us all break the bias and make this society gender-friendly and bias-free. Happy Women’s Day to all! ".

Himani Shivpuri, essaying Katori Amma’s role in &TV’s Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “Jab hai naari main shakti Saari, to Phir Kyun naari ko kahe bechari? - I read this quote somewhere which has made an ever-lasting impact as I relate to every word of it. Women symbolise power and strength but often encounter bias within their families, workspace, and other spheres. We always debate this issue, but it is high time to stop talking and put words into action. UN has selected the most relevant theme for this year, and I am glad to take our first step against gender biases. I always wonder what it would be like to live in a gender-equal world, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. Inclusivity in this diverse world is today’s necessity. On this International Women’s Day, I wish for a world where differences are acknowledged, appreciated, and celebrated. Let us take a pledge to forge women’s equality and #BreakTheBias.”
