The audience has been really loving and appreciating the
intriguing trailer of Netflix’s upcoming web show, The Fame Game, featuring
Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Kapoor and Manav Kaul in the lead. The mystery of a
Bollywood starlet gone missing, with the people in her life having secrets of
their own making them suspects, is being awaited by the viewers, but what is
also creating a lot of buzz and anticipation is the reunion of Madhuri and
Sanjay after 25 years.
The duo first collaborated on the 1995 blockbuster, Raja,
and became an instant hit. They were one of the most loved on screen pairs of
the ’90s, thus them coming together brings in a lot of nostalgia, and the actor
has added to it by sharing an amazing story from the shoot of that film. Raja
is hugely popular for its amazing music and chartbusters like ‘Ankhiyaan
Milaoon’ and ‘Nazrein Mili Dil Dhadka’, and during the promotions of The Fame
Game, even Madhuri got to know about a huge secret from 27 years ago about the
former song from Sanjay.
The actor went on to share that the song ’Ankhiyan Milaoon’
was shot just a month or two before Raja’s release. So, it happened during
April or May 1995, and the shooting conditions were very hot there. But what
makes the story interesting is the efforts Sanjay put to match steps with
Madhuri. “Our shooting was happening in Filmistan Studios and before the shoot
of the song every day, I used to go to Satyam Hall early morning at 6:30 am.
Ahmed Khan, who was an assistant choreographer to Saroj Khan ji at that time, used
to work and rehearse with me for the steps. I had made a deal with Saroj ji
that whatever portions I would practice in the morning, they will shoot it the
same day so that I could match with Madhuri,” he reveals.
But what makes the story more interesting is how Madhuri
reacted to it during that time. “The first few days, she was just wondering
that how was I getting all the steps before her. And she just got to know about
this deal that I had with Saroj ji during the promotions of The Fame Game
only,” Sanjay chuckles.
Today that song and the choreography are considered an iconic example in Hindi cinema, and Sanjay and Madhuri as a pair have left an indelible mark in the film industry with their collaborations in the ’90s. Thus, those two coming together is a celebration already for the ’90s audience and this anecdote just adds to that excitement as the show gears up to start streaming from February 25.
