"There are certain traits of my character Manish that not only me but many people will find relatable", says Vishal Nayak, essaying Manish Agarwal's character in &TV's GharEk Mandir- Kripa Agrasen Maharaja Ki

Having worked in theatre, films, and television, popular actor Vishal Nayak is portraying the character of Manish Agarwal in &TV’s ‘GharEk Mandir - Kripa Agrasen Maharaja Ki'. Manish Agarwal is the eldest son of Kundan Agarwal (Sai Ballal), who owns Agarwal & Sons – a family-run jewellery shop. In a candid conversation, Vishal talks about his role of Manish Agarwal, the preparation he underwent and much more.

1. Principles of Agrasen Maharaja have never been spoken about on Hindi GEC before. What inspired you to take up the role in this unique story?

I am very passionate when it comes to my craft. I always seek opportunities to explore different genres and characters. And to my luck, GharEk Mandir-Kripa Agrasen Maharaja Ki happened, and I could not resist taking the offer. The story does not take you to a fantasy world but deals with reality, making me believe in it and my character. I am sure the viewers will love the show as they are always looking for fresher concepts. It is a win-win for both the actors and viewers as we all get to experience something new.

2. Tell us about the role?

I am essaying the role of Manish Agarwal, who is Kundan Agarwal's (Sai Ballal) eldest son and his biggest hope for taking over the reins of the family business. He is well-educated, ambitious and modern, inclined towards a corporate job than joining the family business. Manish is a family man and respects his father's business. However, deep down, he is very ambitious and wants to make a name for himself. But his father cannot understand his dreams and aspirations, which leads him to rebel. I gave a couple of auditions in May and June, followed by few look tests and mock shots. Post pandemic is my biggest project, and I am so glad to be a part of such a unique show.

3. Are there any similarities one can draw between you and your character Manish?

There are certain traits of my character Manish that not only me but many people will find relatable. The way he treads a fine balance of wanting to be modern and a self-made man and, at the same time, respects his father's decisions is something easily relatable. I have always wanted to become successful on my own while keeping my parents happy. Other than that, like Manish, I am also a family man. I take every step, keeping in mind my family's future as they are my strength and support system.

4. Did you undergo any special preparations to get into the character?

Yes, the production team held workshops to help us understand the character nuisances, the core principles of Agrasen Maharaja and the storyline. It helped a lot to grasp the minutest of details. The workshops did highlight the culture and traditional beliefs of the Baniya Marwadi Agrawal community to learn about their day-to-day activities and functioning and understand their perspective towards business, family, life etc.

5. How has it been shooting for the show?

The experience has been great so far. Shooting in a bio-bubble in Jaipur has brought us all together in a very less time. It feels as if I have found my new family over here. We spend 24 hours together- from shooting to having meals together to game nights, we have an amazing time every day. I share a very special bond with Akshay Mhatre, as it feels like he is my brother. Besides that, sharing a screen with such amazing and experienced artists is no less than a learning experience. I love every bit of it, and I hope this journey will help us reach new heights.

6. What are your expectations from the show?

A lot of hard work and team efforts go into making a show a reality and success. The entire team has given its hundred per cent to the show. So as an actor, I would love to see our viewers liking our show, its storyline, and the characters. We are hopeful that the viewers will find the content refreshing and shower their love to all of us.
