The BCCI on Sunday decided to form a committee to compensate for the loss of income for the domestic cricketers, who have been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On average, an active domestic cricketer in the country earns Rs 20 lakh a year. However, there has been widespread concern regarding the lack of financial support for them.
The domestic cricketers have remained inactive since March last year when the nationwide lockdown was first clamped due to the COVID-19.
According to the Cricbuzz report, the BCCI took the decision to form a panel, during the board's emergent Apex Council meeting, attended by Board president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah.
The members of the panel will be decided by the office-bearers.
"The BCCI office-bearers have been authorized to form the panel and they will come with proposals," a BCCI member, who attended the meeting, told Cricbuzz.
Since March 2020, only a couple of white-ball tournaments were played but the premier domestic tournament - Ranji Trophy - has not been conducted because of travel and other restrictions.
