 Madhya Pradesh govt imposes lockdown in all urban areas from Friday 6 pm-Monday 6 am

Bhopal: The alarming spike in coronavirus cases has forced the Madhya Pradesh government to take drastic measures to help contain the chain of transmission in the state, with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday announcing lockdown measures for weekends without a particular timeline.

“There will be a lockdown in all urban areas of the entire Madhya Pradesh from 6 pm on Friday till 6 am on Monday. We are also setting up containment zones in big cities. My intention has never been to impose a complete lockdown,” the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister announced on Thursday.'

Madhya Pradesh yesterday reported 4,043 new coronavirus cases, taking the infections tally in the state to 3,18,014. With 13 more fatalities, the death toll has climbed to 4,086, the state health department said.

A total of 2,126 patients were discharged in the state in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery count in Madhya Pradesh to 2,87,869.

Indore’s caseload mounted to 74,895 with 866 new cases, while Bhopal’s tally climbed to 55,255 with 618 more infections.

Four more deaths were reported in Indore, taking the toll in the district to 981; fatalities in Bhopal spiked to 641 with one more casualty.

There are 6,281 active cases in Indore at present, while Bhopal has 4,681.

Madhya Pradesh has March 31 recorded 22,503 fresh Covid-19 cases, including 100 fatalities.

With 33,419 new tests, the total number of samples tested for coronavirus in the state has so far crossed 65.95 lakh.
