  An unidentified militant and a civilian were killed during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by security forces in Pampore in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Thursday evening, official sources said this morning.

                                                 
They said with the first light Friday morning security forces resumed CASO against militants holed up in Meeg Lalpora Pampore in Pulwama. However, when the security forces were again moving towards the area where militants were hiding they came under heavy fire.

Security forces also returned the fire killing an unidentified militant, they said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Giving details they said on a tip off troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation following an intelligence input about the presence of militants at Meeg, Pampore last evening.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened fire. The fire was returned ensuing in an encounter, they said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Two civilians were also injured in the shootout last night, they said adding both the injured were hospitalized.

One of the injured identified as Abid Nabi a 22-year-old local resident later succumbed in the hospital early this morning.
