Apple opened its own iPhone announcements for 2020 with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, bringing the less expensive line some of the premium features generally reserved for the Professional line.

Apple advertises 1200 nits of peak brightness, matching the Pro models. The screen has a typical refresh rate of 60Hz and the exact same old notch. What has improved is the glass covering the screen.

Apple requires its Ceramic Shield, and it had been co-developed using Gorilla Glass maker Corning.Apple states that Ceramic Shield glass has"4 times better fall performance" and is"more challenging than any smartphone glass".

5G was a massive part of Apple's presentation. The iPhone 12 supports mmWave in the US and the more broadly spread (but lesser ) sub-6GHz 5G. Apple has analyzed speeds across 100 carriers and says it can reach 3.5Gbps in controlled environments and up to 4Gbps in perfect conditions. Apple went with a more elegant and thinner design for the iPhone 12.

The phone is 11 percent skinnier, 16 percent lighter, and 15% smaller in volume compared to iPhone 11. Much of the reduction in size is down to the horizontal sides of the iPhone 12. The phone's sides are matte, although its back is glossy, the opposite of this iPhone 12 Pro versions. As expected, Apple's A14 Bionic powers the iPhone 12. It's a 6-core (2 strong and four effective cores) CPU and 4-core GPU and brings the overall transistors to 11.8 billion, or about 40 percent more than the A13 Bionic, powering last year's iPhones.

Apple asserts the A14 Bionic is 50% faster in both CPU and GPU than any other smartphone chipset. The A14 Bionic can provide 80% faster machine learning than the A13 Bionic using a documented support for 11 trillion operations per second - which would enable quicker performance from Face to unlock to camera functionality.

The Apple iPhone 12 gains a fresh 12MP broad camera using a more glowing f/1.6 aperture, promising up to 27% greater light catch and an extra 12MP f/2.4 ultrawide shooter. Both inherit Apple's new Smart HDR 3 with enhanced white balance, texture, and saturation.

The most important camera includes OIS, while the ultrawide does not. Both back cameras, in addition to the selfie camera, are now capable of shooting Night Mode images. As expected, Apple has eliminated the Earpods and charger in the iPhone retail package, which has empowered a tiny retail box along with also a much-improved carbon footprint.

What is new this season is the return of MagSafe (yes, the title of this old MacBook charging connector), which enables Apple's unique brand new wireless charger to snap onto the back of the iPhone 12 and deliver around 15W wireless charging. Normal Qi wireless chargers go around 7.5W, while wired charging maxes out at 20W if you buy the required adapter. Pre-orders for its iPhone 12 will open on October 16, with shipments beginning on October 23, beginning at $799.

Apple also unveiled what may very well end up being the star of the series - the iPhone 12 mini - that the world's smallest 5G phone. Owning up to its diminutive title, the iPhone 12 miniature is smaller compared to the 4.7-inch iPhone SE (2020), while incorporating a bigger 5.4-inch 2340x1080px Super XDR OLED display with 476 ppi and up to 1200 nits of brightness as the remainder of the lineup. The iPhone 12 mini shares the display technology, the chipset, the camera program, wireless charging, IP68 rating, and color options as the bigger iPhone 12. Apple will offer the iPhone 12 and 12 mini in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options from Blue, Green, Black, White, and Product Red colors.  The iPhone 12 mini will begin advertising on November 6 and will ship on November 13.
