Gulki Joshi on joining the cast of Sony SAB’s Vanshaj: “I appreciate shows that have strong and independent female characters”
Sony SAB's captivating family drama, "Vanshaj," has been quite the rollercoaster ride for its viewers. It delves into the intricate dynamics and power struggles within a wealthy family's empire. The Mahajan household is a complex web of family politics and relationships that keeps fans eagerly anticipating each week's new developments. Anjali Tatrari takes on the role of Yuvika, who faces numerous challenges as she seeks to unravel the mystery behind her father Premraj's (played by Akshay Anand) murder.
The beloved Gulki Joshi, portraying SHO Haseena Malik from Sony SAB’s Maddam Sir, steps into the limelight, playing a crucial role in Yuvika's quest for justice. Haseena becomes Yuvika's guiding light, confidante, and loyal ally. Their extraordinary connection and Haseena's unwavering support will captivate viewers, ensuring they become emotionally invested in this thrilling journey to uncover the truth.
In a candid conversation, Gulki Joshi revealed:
1. How does it feel to be associated with a show like Vanshaj, which brings a story that challenges the age-old norms of succession to the forefront? What are your thoughts regarding the concept of the show?
Sony SAB's vision to create a show that defies traditional television norms, and the audience is loving it because it's captivating and has changed how stories are told on TV. The efforts have certainly paid off because they were extremely gripping when I watched the episodes. The relationships and conflicts within the show are also defined exceptionally well. I appreciate shows with strong and independent female characters, and Vanshaj does a fantastic job in that regard.
2. Can you tell us more about how your character, Haseena Malik, in 'Vanshaj' will help Yuvika find the real culprit?
Haseena will play a crucial role in 'Vanshaj' as Yuvika's ally and guide in her quest for the truth. The identity of the mastermind behind the lies and deception, as well as the person responsible for Premraj's death, remains a mystery to Yuvika and the entire family. My character will serve as the guiding force, working with Yuvika to bring the real culprit to light and ultimately solve this compelling mystery.
3. What can you share about the relationship between Haseena and Yuvika in the show, and how does it evolve as the story progresses?
The relationship between Haseena and Yuvika in the show is quite remarkable, much like the bond between Krishna and Arjuna in the epic Mahabharata. Initially, Haseena enters as Yuvika's saviour during a challenging time when Yuvika is badly injured and hurt. As the story unfolds, Yuvika and Haseena's relationship evolves into a close and trusting bond. Yuvika, who is skeptical of people, comes to see Haseena as an older sister figure.
4. How do you prepare for a role like Haseena, which is crucial in seeking justice? Are there any aspects of her character that you find particularly interesting or challenging to act out?
At first, I felt the need for preparation, especially since I was returning to this role after a while. However, when I put on Haseena Malik's costume, it was as if she became a part of me again. While shooting for Vanshaj, it took me just a day to adapt to the new environment as the cast was incredibly welcoming, and it didn't feel like I was working with them for the first time. What is particularly interesting about Haseena is that she often delivers these long, dramatic dialogues, which can be challenging. However, I'm accustomed to memorizing and performing extended scenes because I have a theatre background. That has made it easier for me to remember and act out such dialogues.
5. Haseena is a beloved character from Maddam Sir. How has the audience responded to seeing you reprise that role on Vanshaj?
The audience response has been overwhelming. My social media is flooded with messages, and I had no idea that the audience eagerly awaited my return. The decision to bring me back was largely driven by popular demand, and it feels great to be back, more vital than ever. While I miss my 'Maddam Sir' team, Anjali has been a fantastic co-star. She's an adorable girl and a phenomenal actor. The gratitude and love I'm receiving from fans is heartwarming. I hope that as the story progresses, they continue to enjoy my character and the show Vanshaj.
