Even before the excitement over the success of Chandrayaan III has subsided, India will aim for the Sun on Saturday with its maiden solar expedition, as ISRO’s trusted PSLV will carry the Aditya L1 mission to the Sun. The 23.10-hour countdown for the launch of Aditya L1 onboard PSLV C57 commenced on Friday, ISRO said.

The Sun Observatory mission will be fired from the second launchpad at Sriharikota, off the Bay of Bengal coast in Andhra Pradesh, at 11.50 am on Saturday. ISRO chairman S Somanath said the Sun mission will take 125 days to reach the exact radius.

But the celebrations over the Chandrayaan-3’s success are not over. Back on Earth, all lunar mission components will be displayed as models at the Onam pageantry in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram on September 2. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will flag off the floats at 5 p.m. from Manaveeyam Veedhi.

With a clutch of elections due soon, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address public meetings in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh today. While Shah will attend two functions, one in Raipur and the other at Saraipali of Mahasamund district, Gandhi will address a programme of Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club in Nava Raipur – the upcoming new capital city of Chhattisgarh.

Shah was scheduled to arrive in Chhattisgarh late Friday evening on a two-day visit to the state, a BJP functionary said. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with BJP leaders at Kushabhau Thakre Parisar, the party’s state headquarters in Raipur after his arrival. At 11 am on Saturday, Shah will release an aarop patra (chargesheet) against the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government at Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur, the functionary said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin will soon have his own podcast series called “Speaking for India”.

The CM announced his podcast plans in a video released on social media Thursday, saying: “In the past few months, I’ve been sharing my thoughts with you through ‘Ungalin Oruvan (One Among You)’. The DMK is now in its 75th year and stands as the third-largest party in Parliament. Leaders like Annadurai and Karunanidhi have shaped our party into what it is today. These are unprecedented times when it’s more important than ever to speak up for India. The BJP government’s term will end with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. We need to discuss the ways they have already damaged India, and how we can revive the nation based on the principles of harmony and brotherhood. To continue this important dialogue, I am considering launching an audio series. I’m thinking of titling it ‘Speaking for India’. Prepare to hear this voice from the South of India.”

This makes Stalin’s podcast as much a foray into the ideological space as political, with the CM seeking to be a voice representative of the South and its distinct Dravidian ideology, contrasting it to the BJP’s politics. It would also help Stalin build himself as a communicator. The DMK chief is not seen as a mass leader of the kind Karunanidhi and the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa were. Over in Jaipur, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday accused the Congress government in the state of orchestrating a scam in the Jal Jeevan Mission. Justifying the raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Rajasthan, he alleged that a state minister and some MLAs were involved in the scam.

He also announced said that President J P Nadda would launch the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in Sawai Madhopur today. The party will launch four yantras from different locations between Saturday and Tuesday, with each yatra inaugurated by a central leader.

Trinamool Congress number two Abhishek Banerjee is slated to address a public meeting in North Bengal’s Dhupguri Assembly segment, bypoll for which is set to take place on September 5, with counting on September 8. The by-poll in the Rajbanshi-dominated seat was necessitated by the death of former BJP MLA Bishnu Pada Ray on July 25. The party has fielded Nirmal Chandra Roy, a professor at the Dhupguri Girls College, for the seat.
