Wagles fight the age-old customs of dowry on Sony SAB’s 'Wagle Ki Duniya'

Every episode of Sony SAB's 'Wagle ki Duniya' is peppered with social messages that resonate with the lives of every middle-class family. The upcoming episodes will broach a regressive social norm that is still being practiced in the country. The social evil of dowry is being dealt with by the rich and the poor alike.

It all begins with Rajesh’s sister Archana’s wedding that was supposed to happen in Nashik has been rescheduled to Mumbai due to unavoidable situations. The groom’s (Vivek) Father Janardan has demanded that the venue, food and décor arrangements be made perfectly and should be to the mark. Archana enters the Wagle house, but the glow that should be there on a bride’s face is not to be seen. While the mehendi ceremony is on Vandana looks for the initial of the groom in Archana’s hand but instead finds the letter ‘B’. She suspects something wrong and that very night she overhears Archana’s phone conversation with her boyfriend Bunty. A worried Vandana and Rajesh decide to keep an eye on her, later to find out that Archana has ran away. When they find her, the ugly side of the marriage is revealed in which Janardan has demanded a heavy sum of money as dowry which Archana does not want her father to give. Rajesh takes it on him to teach Janardan a lesson.

What will happen next? Will Archana get married to Vivek? Or will Rajesh convince Janardan to let go of his unreasonable demands?

Sumeet Raghavan who essays the role of Rajesh Wagle shares “The condemnable practice of dowry continues to thrive in our society which is deeply saddening. Weddings are lavish, and many a times the bride’s parents are forced to take huge loans to give in to the demands of the groom and his parents. Why are we still treating our daughters like mere commodities that are being exchanged during marriage? The upcoming episodes shed light on this subject, and viewers will witness how the Wagle clan takes on the menace of this social stigma in an unabashed way.”
