In an untold yet immortalized tale of a son’s affection for his mother,
Sony SAB brings to you the story of the mighty king of birds, Garud (Faisal
Khan) who exhibited extreme courage and grit to free his mother Vinta (Toral
Rasputra) from the shackles of subjugation. Rishi Kashyap, the progenitor
of all beings, was married to sisters Vinta and Kadru. While Vinta was calm,
composed and learned, Kadru was the overbearing, evil sister who tricked the
former into losing a bet leading Vinta to become a slave and fulfill her evil
demands. As a result, Garud who was destined to be the Lord of the Skies, was
born into slavery.
Vinta’s bondage came with limitations that she won't be able to disclose
the entire truth to her son. Hence, Garud was not able to comprehend why his
mother, being a queen, was mistreated by his own aunt and snake brothers. Even
in subjugation, Vinta knew everything about the universe. She was an ardent
follower of Lord Vishnu and even though she hoped to get freed someday, she had
accepted her fate. But Garud refused to give in and thus began his quest to
regain the honor of his mother, the only one person he loved with all his
might. Endowed with superpowers, Garud knew he would have to fight the fiercest
battles and flip the turn of the universe to give his mother the due respect
she deserves.
Faisal Khan who essays the character of Garud says, “The story of Garud is
essentially about a son’s undying devotion for his mother. Garud, unlike his
nemesis, had no greed or hunger for power. He didn’t use his powers to kill or
conquer; he just wanted to free his mother from the shackles of slavery and
torture. At a time when integrity was hard to find, Garud proved to be the
ideal son, the noble being who went against all odds to earn back the freedom
for his innocent mother, Vinta. He was not only strong but intelligent and used
his wit in the most innovative ways to turn things in his favour. Toral as
Vinta is wonderful and she fits the role perfectly. It is great fun shooting
with her. Since we share a good rapport offscreen, I feel that shall also
reflect in the show. Our director told us on the first day on set that we look
like a real life mother-son duo and that made my day. This is a story no one
has heard before and I can promise the audience won't be disappointed when
Garud comes alive on screen.”
Toral Rasputra who essays the role of Vinta says, “Vinta’s struggle is Garud’s
pain. That is how deep a bond they share. Although Vinta seems to have accepted
her cursed fate, Garud leaves no stones unturned to change that and give her
the life she deserves. Being learned and intelligent herself, she prepares
Garud for the world and gives him the gift of knowledge and sense of direction.
With Vinta by his side, Garud goes on to achieve the impossible. But how this
adventure unfolds is a spectacle in itself and I would urge the audience to
tune in to Sony SAB and shower their love on Dharm Yoddha Garud!”
