“Lalach bahut badi kamzori hai insaan ki” this dialogue from the 90’s blockbuster
film ‘Judaai’ perfectly summarizes what the film meant to convey. The movie
featuring Bollywood’s bemisaal jodi – Anil Kapoor and Sridevi along with the
gorgeous Urmila Matondkar, received global recognition and praise. Upasaana
Singh’s popular dialogue, ‘Abba Dabba
Jabba’ and Paresh Rawal’s character Hasmukhlal
with a question mark on his forehead, brought a comedy element in the movie
which left a lasting impression on the audience. The film not only projected
stellar performances but also it was Bollywood’s successful attempt at
featuring a money-lured protagonist and her journey. With the fresh storyline,
hit songs and catchy dialogues, it succeeded to become one of the top-grossing
films of that year. Though ‘Judaai’ marked Sridevi’s last collaboration with
Anil Kapoor, the famous duo is everyone’s favourite till date. The film
completes a dhamakedar milestone of 25 years this 28th February. Celebrating
this occasion, 101% shuddh Bollywood channel Zee Bollywood will air the 101%
Shuddh drama, 90’s style on 28th February at 9 pm.
Reminiscing the memories, Anil Kapoor
said, “Celebrating 25 years of Judaai - saying it out
loud feels so surreal. It was absolutely a pleasure working with two
exceptionally talented women Sridevi and Urmila. The working style was very
different back then and had its own charm. I remember this one particular
scene; we were shooting the song sequence ‘Haan Mujhe Pyaar Hua’ and all I had
to do was remove my sunglasses and put it in my jacket and look at Urmila.
Little did I know, the jacket I was wearing did not have any pockets and during
the shot I was clueless, looking for a place to rest my sunglasses. The whole
crew on the set burst into laughter and that shot made it to the final cut. Looking
back at those days brings so much joy. I’m delighted to celebrate 25 nostalgic
years of Judaai”
1997’s blockbuster film of the year, Judaai is a
story of a picture-perfect family of Raj (Anil Kapoor) and Kaajal (Sridevi)
leading their mediocre life. Their bond is put to test when Raj’s boss’s
daughter, Jhanhvi (Urmila Matondkar) comes to town, falls head over heels for
him and wishes to marry him in exchange for a load of money. Lured by the money
and comfort, Kaajal agrees to the terms and encourages Raj to marry Jhanhvi
happily. Unaware of the problems that entails post this union, Kajal fights to
regain her husband and family.
