Every year, we celebrate International Day of Yoga on 21st June to promote better awareness around the need to lead a holistic lifestyle, while stressing on the many benefits of practicing yoga. Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that originated in India that incorporates a balance of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.Over the past few years, International Day of Yoga has been celebrated with great gusto and mass demonstrations in different countries. However, the ongoing Covid19 pandemic has altered the way of life for many. In sync with the current situation, this year the theme is ‘Yoga at home and Yoga with Family’, focusing on the need for families across the world to incorporate yoga into their daily lives, to lead a healthier, fitter and more relaxed lifestyle. 

This International Yoga Day let us look at the best way to stay fit by practicing yoga and supplementing it with the most important element – a healthy and nutritious diet. Families can begin their journey to holistic health by making small yet impactful changes to every member’s diet and daily routine. 

Adding a handful of almonds to the diet is a greatfirst step, as they make for a nutritious snacking option and eating them regularly can offer multiple benefits across heart health, diabetes and weight management, skin health and also help keep the immune system healthy. 

Speaking about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, Leading Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan, said, “I love practicing yoga, and believe it’s the fusion of science and spirituality. And according to a recent study in the UK, participants who had been replacing typical snacks with almonds saw improved measures of heart rate variability (HRV)in response to  mental stress, which is a key indicator of how well the heart adapts to environmental and psychological challenges. Impaired HRV is linked to cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac death.”
