“Summer for me is Nani ka ghar, aamras and Gully cricket”, says Dev Joshi from Baalveer Returns as he reminisces about his childhood in Gujarat

Dev Joshi’s journey from Ahmedabad to becoming a household name in India has been nothing short of inspiring. The immensely talented actor started his journey at a very young age and won the hearts of the nation through the portrayal of the beloved superhero, Baalveer. With the new season of Baalveer Returns, he is seen mastering a double role, both as the protagonist Happy Pandey as well as playing a negative character for the first time - Kaal.

Dev Joshi has always believed that there’s a Baalveer in all of us, and while his character might achieve mighty success in the show, Dev off-screen is just like any of us. Hailing from Gujarat, Dev Joshi’s summer memories are bound to take us on a nostalgic ride. Be it a trip to grandma’s house or relishing a lip-smacking glass of Aam Ras, Dev Joshi has enjoyed it all. In a recent interview, Dev got candid about how he spent his summers as a kid.

Speaking about growing up in Gujarat, Dev said, “Gujarat’s rich culture, traditions, heartwarming people and beautiful places are a blessing for all those growing up in this beautiful state. Coming from the land that has given birth to so many leaders and renowned people makes me proud. Gujarat has a special place in my heart. I have been staying in Mumbai for work off-late, and I am glad that I got this opportunity, I love the city for its various cultural offerings as well.”

Talking about the summer vacations during his childhood, he said, “While Gujarat has intense summers, I never complained as all I always cared about was an opportunity to play outdoors. Summer vacations were all about gully cricket and riding my bicycle in the neighbourhood. Staying at Nani’s house was a summer vacation tradition for me and an occasion that I would wait for every year. Summer for me can be defined as Nani ka Ghar, Aam Ras and gully cricket. These are some of the most special memories of my childhood.”

Revealing what he enjoys eating the most during summers, Dev said, “Can summer be complete without mangoes? Absolutely not. Mango is my favourite fruit, and I simply can’t resist Aam Ras. Besides Mangoes, my summer special menu includes watermelon, sugarcane juice and almost every child’s weakness, ice gola.”
