AEML Commissions 220 kV, 125MVA capacity eco-friendly Ester Oil Power Transformer at Borivali

Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) an integrated power utility , recently commissioned India’s first Synthetic Ester Oil filled 220kV, 125MVA capacity power transformer in its Mumbai Transmission network at 220kV Borivali EHV substation . Unlike conventional mineral oil filled Transformer, Synthetic Ester Oil transformer has higher fire point (>300 deg.C), low heat of combustion (30.8 MJ/kg). Moreover, it offers enhanced fire safety, better performance at higher temperature and prolonged life of Insulation paper (hence  transformer).  Further,  its oil  has  better biodegradability which is an environment friendly. Considering this, Ester Oil Transformer is best suitable for city like installation. Along with that  it has another additional feature such as Resin Impregnated Paper (RIP) bushings, Vacuum OLTC (On Load Tap Changer) which improves rel iability significantly.

This augmentation of Transformation capacity at Borivali EHV substation, will strengthen T ransmission & Distribution (T&D) infrastructure, to meet incremental load growth in and around Borivali area, maintain reliable/quality power supply and availability of transmission system at desired level. AEML commissioned  t his  in  record  time  of  15  days  by  taking all  required safety measures in current pandemic situation.

Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd is an integrated Power utility, having presence in Generation, Transmission and Distribution verticals in Mumbai Power system. Its Transmission Division operates eight 220kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) Substations with an aggregat e transformation capacity of 3,250 MVA and

approximately 572 ckt. kms of 220kV lines. Five out of these eight EHV Substations are new technology vertically designed, compact Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) based EHV Substations.

The Company always strives to adopt best practices, along with efforts to keep the high standards of maintaining network system availability. For fiscal year ended 31 st March 2021, the Company registered 99.87% system availability, which is above  the norms set  by the  Hon. Maharasht ra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).

Speaking on the occasion AEML’s spokesman said, “The Installation of Ester oil- based  Transformer  once again underlines AEML’s commitment for greener future of the city. AEML is already committed to supply 30% of total electricity in its licence area through renewable resources.”

This Synthetic Ester  Oil  filled 220kV, 125MVA  capacity power transformer is supplied by M/s Siemens Ltd , Kalwa unit and is commissioned in record time of

15 days from delivery of t ransformer on site by taking all required safety measures in current pandemic situation.
