After a gap of 30 years, President's Rule was imposed in the Union Territory for the seventh time.
Subsequent to the fall of the V Narayanasamy-led Congress government in Puducherry, owing to the resignation of five Congress legislators and disqualification of a member, Narayansamy government was reduced to a minority and lost the confidence vote on the floor of the house on February 22.
President’s Rule was imposed here for the first time from 18th Sept 1968 to 17th march 1969 (180 days), from 3rd January 1974 to March 6 ,1974 (62 days), from 28th March 1974 to July 2 1977 ( 3 years and 96 days), from 12th November 1978 to 16th January 1980-(one year and 65 days) from 24th June 1983 to 16th March 1985-(one year and 265 days) and from 4th March 1991 to 3rd July 1991- (121 days).
