Joe Root continues his great form with a 100 on his 100th Test

The England captain smashed another century, equalling his personal best for the most centuries in a calendar year, with three solid knocks as early as February. The first Test against India in Chennai is also Root's 100th, as he joins a small club of cricketers to hit a century in their landmark Test.

Root previously made a century at Pallekele in 2018. At Galle, the ton is Root's first Test century for 13 months and his 18th overall. There are further encouraging signs for England, who are currently touring Sri Lanka, as Dan Lawrence scored a half-century on his Test debut.
