 GIZ’s Project Her&Now expands to Uttar Pradesh: Partners with Empower Foundation to Support Women Entrepreneurs in the Region

Empower Foundation has opened the Call for Applications for the first-ever ‘Her & Now’ cohort of women entrepreneurs from UP

The last date for applying for the programme is 25th February, 2021

Uttar Pradesh, February 2021:For over two years now, Germany-headquartered global development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fürInternationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been implementing the project“Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women (Her&Now)”in various parts of India, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. The objective of the project is economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs of our country. In a bid to extend the project activities to tier 2 and tier 3 cities/towns of Uttar Pradesh in the near future, Her&Nowhas recently partnered with the Empower Foundation--the not-for-profit arm of reputed private sector social enterprise- Empower Pragati. 

Following this collaboration, Empower Foundation – the organization currently in-charge of the implementation of ‘Her&Now’ project in Uttar Pradesh (UP) – has nowrolled out aCall for Applications for a 3-months support programme to be provided to the first cohort of early-stage skill-certifiedwomen entrepreneurs in Saharanpur, Moradabad, Hapur and Bulandshahr.

Speaking on the occasion, Ullas Marar, Project Head, Her&Now, GIZ says, “Our project has a holistic approachin supporting women entrepreneurs to build and grow their enterprises. We are working to improve the framework conditions for women entrepreneurs in India. We have partnered with a number of organizations across India, specifically in the north east, Rajasthan and Telangana, for effective on-ground implementation of theHer&Nowproject. The latest partnership with Empower Foundation will enable us in reaching out to a diverse range of women entrepreneurs and their immediate surroundings in various nooks and corners of Uttar Pradesh. Through capacity building, mentorship,and customizedsupport spearheaded by Empower Foundation, this project would be instrumental inequipping the women entrepreneursin the state to grow their businesses.”

The business development support programme under the project is open to women entrepreneurs in Uttar Pradesh who: 

  • Above 18 years

  • Skill-certified 

  • Want to set up a for-profit enterprise 

  • Have been running an informal enterprise/are part of a group enterprise, and are now willing to start-up on her own 

  • Aspire to start growing their enterprises and register as a legal entity 

What will participants learn: 

  • How to set up their own small business unit based on their skillset

  • Financial and Digital Literacy through exposure to modern day financial tools available for the general public, like UPI payments and digital bookkeeping

  • Gender sensitivity and a gender-positive approach towards entrepreneurship
