The sixth edition of the International Film Festival of Shimla

 The sixth edition of the International Film Festival of Shimla (IFFS) which was streaming virtually from December 25-26 concluded here on Saturday.



Seven films from Russia, Australia, France were screened on the second day in International category while three films from Maharashtra were screened in National category.

There was live streaming of these films on festival and Language Art and Culture Academy official facebook page. All the directors were participated virtually from their countries amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Festival director congratulated the award winners and said this year the festival received record entries of films from 32 countries. It was very difficult and challenging for the jury to select the best film out of them, he said.

Secretary Language, Art and Culture Dr Karm Singh said that this festival has given platform to Himachali filmmakers along with national and international filmmakers.

LAC academy is also designated for the promotion of independent cinema in Himachal and association with IFFS is really great experience for them.

In panel discussion, former director and cameraman, Amrit Pal said that today digital technique has made film making easier task though content and subject are important for successful film making. It is important for filmmakers to focus on good content, he said.

Sandeep Pampally, National Award winning filmmaker and Director of 'Sinjar' the first-ever film in Jasari, a language spoken in parts of Lakshadweep and close to Malayalam, said in his address that the success of Malyalam cinema is its good content and its creative presentation. Today Malyalam cinema has become popular globally, he said.

Gul Riaz, a filmmaker from Kashmir said that Independent filmmakers are doing well in Kashmir. Abhishek Arun from Chapra Bihar during his interaction said, "this time we are missing screening in historical Gaiety Theatre. But online straming of festival has maintained the flow of films."

Ganesh Pandey, Award winning filmmaker from Nepal said that film festivals work as a bridge between the countries for cultural exchange and discussions.
