Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a clinical bowling performance to restrict Mumbai Indians to 149/8 in the last league match of the IPL 2020, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
After being invited to bat first, Mumbai Indians got off to a bad start as they lost its skipper Rohit Sharma (4) in the third over of the innings bowled by Sandeep Sharma.
Quinton de Kock played a quickfire cameo of 25 runs off just 13 balls but he couldn't carry his innings longer and was dismissed by Sandeep in the 5th over, reducing Mumbai to 39/2.
After Rohit and his opening partner de Kock departed inside the powerplay overs, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav put on a stand of 42 runs for the third wicket.
However, as soon as Mumbai started to gain an upper hand, Shahbaz Nadeem got rid of the in-form Suryakumar (36) and Krunal Pandya (0) in the 12th over.
In the next over, Rashid Khan sent Saurabh Tiwary (1) back to the pavilion to reduce MI to 82 for five.
Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard tried to retrieve the innings for Mumbai. Just when the partnership between Ishan and Pollard was looking dangerous, Sandeep removed Kishan (33) in the 17th over to push MI back on backfoot.
However, Pollard came to his team's rescue yet again with a valuable cameo of 41 off 25 balls. The defending champions scored 51 runs off the last five overs to reach 149-8 in 20 overs.
Sandeep Sharma 3/34, Shahbaz Nadeem 2/19, Jason Holder (2/25) were the wicket-takers for SRH.
