Seems like time is running out for injured india players Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, who are trying to recover just on time to feature in the 4-match Test series against Australia. Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has said that the duo should ideally be on the flight for Australia in 3 to 4 days or else their participation in "any red-ball cricket" will be "tough".

Both Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma are currently at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore and working hard to regain their match fitness. Ishant was recently seen bowling full tilt under the watcful eyes of director Rahul Dravid, while Rohit Sharma on Saturday said that his hamstring was "absolutely fine" but few works were "still to be done" before getting back in action.

Ravi Shastri, while talking to ABC Sport, has reckoned that featuring in the Test series will get difficult for Rohit and Ishant if they are advised to rest for a longer duration. A 14-day quarantine is mandatory in Australia due to the coronavirus pandemic and that will make it necessary for the two senior players to land in the country by November 26 if they want to feature in their side's final practice match against Australia A from December 11. The first Test match is scheduled to commence in Adelaide from December 17.

"He's going through some tests at the NCA and they're obviously going to decide [for] how long he needs to take a break. But things could get difficult if he's asked to wait for too long, [because] then you're talking of the quarantine again, which might make it really tough for even him to come just in time for the Test series.

"He was never going to play the white-ball series, they were just looking to see how long he needed the rest, because you can't afford to be resting for too long. If you need to play in the Test series or any red-ball cricket, you've got to be on the flight in the next three or four days. If you aren't, then it's going to be tough.

"It's a similar case (Ishant's injury) to Rohit. You don't really know how quickly he'll be available to fly out. Like I said, if anyone has to play in the Test series, he has to be on the flight in the next four or five days. Otherwise, it's very difficult," Ravi Shastri told ABC Sports.

While, Ishant Sharma is suffering from a hamstring injury, Ishant sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear during IPL 2020.
