The BSE Sensex on Wednesday advanced by 142 pts to open at 40,664.35 on renewed buying in Materials, Energy, IT and Telecom stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange too rose by 33 pts to 11,922.60.
The Sensex registered intra days high and low at 40,664.35 and 40,406.17 pts respectively.
The Nifty registered intra days high and low at 11,929.40 and 11,858.30 respectively.
The Mid Cap was up by 0.04 pc and Small Cap by 0.20 pc.
In 30 scrips, 11 advanced while 19 declined.
The gainers were M& M by 1.93 pc to Rs 608.50, Maruti Suzuki by 1.23 pc to Rs 7246.35, NTPC by 0.84 pc to Rs 90.20, Tata Steel by 0.79 pc to Rs 413.80 and Bajaj Finserv by 0.55 pc to Rs 5696.15.
The losers were Kotak Bank by 2 pc to Rs 1556.30, HDFC by 1.58 pc to Rs 2007, ICICI Bank by 1.27 pc to Rs 404.65 and Ultracemco by 1.20 pc to Rs 4512.50.
