Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, who is known as Masala King, the owner of Mahashi Di Hatti (MDH), has died on Thursday at the age of 98. Dharam Pal Gulati, who has become a household name, thanks to the ‘real spices Sach-Sach, MDH’, had come to India as a refugee in this country and started here as a Tange wala. Dharampal Gulati resumed his family business by coming here from Sialkot, Pakistan. By the time he reached the last stage of his age, Gulati was very active and he used to visit MDH’s factory, market and dealer every day. Apart from this, he was also seen in the advertisement of his spices. Let us know how his journey from Sialkot to Delhi was. Gulati was born on 27 March 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. Talking about education, he left the fifth grade studies in the middle of 1933. In 1937, with the help of his father, he started a small business of glass, soap and carpentry. Gradually, he expanded his small business and started selling clothes and hardware. Despite the expansion, his business did not last long and he joined his family business. His family business was to make spices. He used to do spices business in the name of Mahashian Di Hatti, which was also called Degi Chilli Wale. After the partition of the country in August 1947, he came to Delhi, the capital of India, in September 1947, along with the family. he had only 1500 rupees in his pocket. With this amount of 650 rupees, he bought a Tanga and started riding from New Delhi Railway Station to Qutub Road and Karol Bagh to Bada Hindu Rao. After a few days, he bought a small shop (Gumti) on Ajmal Khan Road in Karol Bagh and started his family business of spices. Gulati opened a store of spices in Karol Bagh. After this, in 1953, he opened another shop in Chandni Chowk. In 1959 Gulati bought land in Kirti Nagar and established MDH’s manufacturing plant. When people came to know about Dharmapala’s spice shop, Sialkot’s Deli chilli ones are now in Delhi, their business continued to expand. The business of MDH spices gradually spread not only outside Delhi, but also grew in fame outside the country. Today it is used in more than 100 countries. MDH is one of the largest brands of spices and produces 50 different types of spices. MDH has offices not only in India but also in Dubai and London. More than 60 products of MDH are available in the market but the highest sales will be of chilli, chaat masala and chana masala.
